US Department of Defense: Russia is deliberately attacking civilian objects in Ukraine

The US Department of Defense has concluded that Russian troops are deliberately attacking civilian objects in Ukraine.

Deutsche Welle reports that the official representative of the US Department of Defense, John Kirby, announced this information.

"We still see chaotic attacks on civilians and believe that in many cases they are intentional. Such actions lead to an increase in civilian casualties, which is not justified," Kirby said.

The Pentagon has accused Russia of war crimes on Ukrainian territory.

"We certainly see clear evidence that Russian forces are committing war crimes, and we will help gather evidence of this," said a spokesman of the Department of Defense. He said that the Pentagon would "contribute" to the investigation.

US President Joseph Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken have made similar accusations against Russia. However, they said it was their personal opinion. White House spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki also said that the State Department studied information on possible war crimes and passed it on to relevant international organizations.

On 20 March 2022, in the Kyiv region alone, about 30 shellings of Russian troops of residential areas and social infrastructure were recorded. The Bucha district (Irpin, Bucha, Makariv, Borodyan, Dmytriv communities), Brovarsky district (Velikodymersk community), Vyshhorod district (Dymersk, Ivankiv communities) suffered the most tremendous damage.

It should be noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Serhiy Lavrov, confirmed that the bombing of the hospital and maternity hospital on 9 March 2022 in Mariupol was purposeful.

As of 19 March 2022, 489 educational institutions in Ukraine were damaged due to the Russian bombing.
