The USA imposes sanctions against the daughters of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and the wife and children of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Serhiy Lavrov.
These restrictions will be part of the new package, The Independent reports. The sanctions will also affect Sberbank, The Guardian adds.
New sanctions are directed at the Russian elite and ban any Americans from making new investments in Russia. The Associated Press reports that the restrictions are the response to Russia’s war crimes against Ukraine.
New measures also affect Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and the Russian Security Council members, including the former president, Dmitriy Medvedev.
These people will be completely disconnected from the US financial system; their American assets will be blocked.
Sberbank, which owns a third of all assets, and Alfa-Bank will be blocked for Americans completely, Reuters writes, citing a US official.
US citizens will not be able to invest in Russia, including via venture capitals and mergers.
Bloomberg also reported that the EU could also impose sanctions against Putin’s adult children - Katerina Tikhonova and Mariia Vorontsova.
