UN reopens Kyiv office

The United Nations is reopening its office in Kyiv.

This was stated by UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths, RBC-Ukraine reports.

He also took the initiative to hold a meeting with representatives of the aggressor country russia.

"We invited both sides to agree that the representatives of russia and Ukraine would meet under the auspices of the UN in virtual or personal format to discuss humanitarian issues. Especially - the military component, perhaps the ceasefire, its monitoring, safe corridors, humanitarian priorities,"- said Griffiths.

He also announced his visit to Turkey, where he plans to discuss the situation in Ukraine with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"I am going to Turkey this week to meet with President Erdogan, who spoke with the UN Secretary-General yesterday, for further discussion of some ideas," Griffiths added.

On April 16, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave an interview to Ukrainian online media. He noted that negotiations with russia are underway. However, he noted that currently there is no trust in russian negotiators. The President said that there were talks, in particular, on a humanitarian corridor for Mariupol. The mediator was personally President Erdogan.

"We agreed that the wounded, killed and civilians could be taken through Berdyansk, first of all women and children. There are very young children there. At some point russia refused this agreement, so there is no trust in it," Zelensky said.
