President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes that the visit of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Moscow and then to Kyiv is "really about helping and not about political tourism."
Zelenskyy said this at a press conference in the capital's subway on 23 April 2022.
"I think we have taken many steps to change his position and strengthen his position as for the support of Ukraine. I have had several meetings with him. I have told him firmly enough that we cannot have a balance in relations between Ukraine and russia," - said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Head of State said that he expects to receive 100% support from the UN Secretary-General. Zelenskyy also announced that Guterres was likely to visit places where Ukrainians were tortured so that he could tell russian President Volodymyr Putin what he had seen.
"It is for sure because the truth is 100% on our side, and the war is in our country. After his arrival, if the Secretary-General has time - I think he has a very respectable status, he must first visit places where there was torturing and where our people were killed, and only then find time for "honorable people from Moscow" - said Zelenskyy.
I think it is more important to understand what is happening here to have a valid point of view that the Secretary-General can express in Moscow during the meeting with the President of this state. Because if you just come to Kyiv and talk, it is not enough. First of all, we need to understand what is happening here, so I have always suggested that many leaders should first understand what is happening before they go to Moscow, to the russian federation. If it is really about helping and not about political tourism. I think he will see it, and his opinion about Ukraine will get even stronger," - the President of Ukraine explained.
It became known that Guterres would arrive in Moscow on 26 April 2022 to meet with Putin and Lavrov. Later the UN announced that Guterres would arrive in Ukraine on 28 April 2022 to meet with Zelenskyy and Kuleba.
