Ukrainian Official: Negotiations Regarding Security Guarantees to Conclude Within Week

Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor of the Presidential Office head, said. The negotiations with different guarantor countries of the security for Ukraine will be over during the week. Today the consultations keep going. Suspilne media reports that with the reference to Podolyak’s statement on the air of the united TV Marathon.

“The consultations keep going at the level of advisors and with the countries that announced their consent to discuss the guarantees they can undertake. Of course, there will be different packages of guarantees,” said Podolyak.

He also identified important for Ukraine items such as weapons supply, the closed sky, military consultations, and means for a quick purchase of complementary weapons.

“I think that we can expect the closure of these issues in a week's time,” said Podolyak.

According to him, the security guarantees for Ukraine is a question of principle.

“We don’t want to have Minsk-3, for example, and to have a similar conflict with RF in several years,” said the official.

Ukraine is looking for such security guarantees which foresee the participation of other countries on the side of Ukraine in the case of escalation of the conflict.

“Regarding the RF, it is important for us the RF to understand that if it wants to attack it will meet other countries with their powerful armies as well,” explained Podolyak. According to him, it must be about the legal right of such countries to make a stand for Ukraine.

On 16 April 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his interview with the mass media that there were no final agreements with partner countries. None of the countries formalized their readiness to become a security guarantor. Nevertheless, he promised details in “seven to ten days”.
