Today, 26 April, an agreement was signed in Warsaw on granting Ukrenergo the status of an observer member of ENTSO-E, the European network of electricity transmission system operators.

This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko.

"This agreement brings Ukraine even closer to full integration with European energy markets and determines our development for the future. I am grateful to our European partners and friends for their support and trust. I am convinced that this event is important not only for us but also for Europe. ENTSO-E will be mutually beneficial, as we will not only study and implement European best practices but will also be able to share invaluable experience in ensuring the reliability of the power system in extreme conditions," the press center of the National Atomic Energy Generating Company Energoatom cites the minister.

It is noted that the status of an observer member will allow Ukrenergo to join the International Association of European Transmission System Operators.

As an observing member, the Ukrainian operator will be able to participate in the meetings of the ENTSO-E Regional Group "Continental Europe". Representatives of the company will be able to join the working and expert groups of ENTSO-E, which deal with electricity market development, balancing, ancillary services, electronic data exchange, development of cyber security in the electricity sector, integration of renewable energy sources, and more.

The merge of the Ukrainian and European energy systems was completed in mid-March. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine had become a member of the "Energy European Union".

A year ago, Ukraine planned to separate from the energy systems of russia and Belarus in 2022 and work in isolation. At midnight on February 24, Ukraine disconnected its energy system from russia. Despite the fact that on the same day the russian federation invaded Ukraine, the test of isolation of the power system was successful.
