Supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe will exceed 10bn m3 in 2022, media inform quoting the statement of the Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov on the round table meeting "Energy transition in Southeastern Europe: regional cooperation in the areas of energy security, diversification and transmission to green energy" in Sofia.

"11.6bn m3 of gas has been already transported to Europe through the Trans Adriatic Pipeline. During the four months of this year 3.5bn m3 of Azerbaijani gas was supplied to Europe, 3.1bn m3 of this amount – Italy`s part, 0.3bn m3 – Greece`s and 0.1bn m3 – Bulgaria`s. It is envisaged that our gas supply will exceed 10bn m3 at current export rates," media quote the Minister.

According to Shahbazov, the Southern Gas Corridor "has proven its strategic value in a short time" by supplying natural gas seamlessly at favorable prices to European consumers. "Azerbaijan intends to continue playing the role of reliable energy supplier both for the countries in the region and for the European countries," he emphasized.

Azerbaijan started commercial supplies of gas to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, which is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor on December 31, 2020.

The Southern Gas Corridor is a route for energy supply from the Caspian region to Europe. It is envisaged to include the Trans Caspian Pipeline from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan; the Nabucco pipeline through Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary to Austria.

Predicted length of the project in 3500 kilometers. Its main aim is increasing the security of gas supplies to Europe, excluding russia as a monopolist in gas supplies, and Ukraine – as a monopolist in gas transition.
