The russians destroyed a modern monastery building, which was built on the model of one of the temples in russia. The construction was carried out at the expense of supporters of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.
This was announced by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko.
"Unfortunately, it was completely destroyed: the walls and ceilings of the Lavra were almost completely damaged, as well as the facades of other modern buildings of the monastery," said Oleksandr Tkachenko.
He added that according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, russian troops deliberately bombed their own church because it was not the first time they had attacked it.
The Minister of Culture and Information Policy noted that from February 24 to early May, the russians destroyed or damaged about a hundred religious buildings in Ukraine.
At least seven people were injured as result of the shelling of the Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra on May 4. The enemy struck the Kramatorsk region from aircraft.
The monastery was also shelled in March 2022. Then almost all the windows were broken, church buildings were destroyed to varying degrees.
