German Minister of Economics Robert Habeck told WirtschaftsWoche that he believes that the Federal Republic of Germany will be able to withstand the ban on russian gas imports next winter if it reduces consumption, fills storage facilities and provides the opportunity to obtain enough liquefied gas through LNG terminals.

The Minister of Economics believes that Germany's ability to survive next winter without Russian gas will depend on several conditions: if German gas storage facilities are filled by the end of 2022 and two of the four planned LNG floating terminals are connected to the grid.

Additionally, industry and households have to cut gas consumption by 10%.

German officials are preparing for a sudden suspension of gas supply from russia and are developing a package of emergency measures. It may include taking control of critical companies.

Last year Germany imported 55% of the consumed gas from russia.
