The idea of French President Emmanuel Macron to establish the European Political Union is not an alternative to Ukraine's membership in the EU.
Head of Ukrainian diplomacy Dmytro Kuleba stated about it at a joint briefing with the head of the French Foreign Ministry Catherine Colonna.
"You know well how we in Ukraine are fed up with special solutions, half-measures, special approaches, individual models that are invented in certain European capitals for Ukraine. We need a clear legal fixation that Ukraine is part of the European integration project. Such a fixation will be granting Ukraine the status of a candidate," - Kuleba said.
The Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine added that his French colleague explained that President Macron's plan to establish the European Political Union is not an alternative to Ukraine's membership in the EU or a third solution, but a pan-European process that will make both Ukraine and the EU stronger.
Earlier, today, Katherine Colonna visited Ukraine. She became the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 20 this year. The visit to Ukraine is her first foreign trip to a new position, not to an EU country.
