The European Commission will decide on giving Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia the EU membership candidacy on 17 June. All the media reports about this question having been decided on yesterday are not true, the European Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer said in a briefing as cited by russian media.
"I read the news that the European Commission has already decided yesterday, but it's not true. The European Commission made no decisions yesterday. There were general debates that allowed the EU members to exchange opinions on the issue and get prepared for Friday," – he said.
The Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak reported yesterday that, according to the debates results, Ukraine and Moldova are likely to receive recommendations only regarding candidacy status with some conditions but no full candidacy for EU membership.
Meanwhile, according to Politico, the European Commission is going to recommend a full candidacy.
The final decision on whether Ukraine becomes a candidate to enter the European Union will be made at a summit on 23-24 June.
