The leaders of Germany, Italy, Romania, and France met on 16 June with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Following the meeting, they expressed their support for "immediate" candidate status for EU membership for Ukraine. The "Evropeiska pravda" reported this citing BFMTV.

"Germany supports a positive decision in Ukraine's favor. This also applies to the Republic of Moldova. Ukraine is a part of the European family," – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.

The President of France Emmanuel Macron mentioned that "either way, we support Ukraine's status to join the European Union".

Macron also added that Ukraine would receive a road map after getting the candidate status for EU membership. Also, the European Union will take into account the situation in the Western Balkans.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hosted an official meeting in Mariinskyy Palace with the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, the President of France Emmanuel Macron, and the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and the Italian government head Mario Draghi.

Before this, the foreign guests visited Irpin, where they saw the places of destruction that the russian occupiers left in the city.
