President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he has confirmation of the upcoming deliveries of powerful air defence systems from Western allies to Ukraine.
"No matter how the war unfolds on the battlefield, the priority is still the safe sky. That is the priority. No-one is expecting this or that aircraft anymore, but we all expect and have confirmation, so far theoretically, of the arrival of powerful air defence in Ukraine," Zelensky said at a briefing with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin.
In particular, he said, such supplies, which can keep people safe from rocket strikes, will also determine the speed of the return home of internally displaced people who fled the Russian war.
"This is important. Because it will allow women, children to return home. Children need to go to schools, adults need to go to universities, work and so on. We could talk for a long time - what specific systems are needed, how much - it's all there, it all was handed over to all our partners very, very long time ago," Zelenskyy added.
As reported earlier, the new US aid package includes the NASAMS air defence systems as well. NASAMS is a medium-range air defence system. Its main purpose is to destroy enemy air targets at medium and low altitudes in any meteorological conditions. It is developed by the Norwegian company Norwegian Kongsberg and the US company Raytheon.
