The Russian army targeted the village centre in Yunakivska community of Sumy Region. The shells were aimed at civilians.
Two people died on the spot, the Head of the Regional Military Administration Dmytro Zhyvytskyy said.
Another man was wounded - he was riding a motorcycle when the enemy attacked.
"About 10 artillery shells were fired near the shops, just at the time when it is most crowded there," said Zhyvytskyy.
Several houses and a clinic were damaged.
