The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold defence in Soledar, Donetsk region, and on the outskirts of the city, the spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Serhiy Cherevatyy, has said on the air of the telethon.
According to him, Russians made 259 attacks from artillery of various types in the Bakhmut sector over the last day. They shelled Soledar 134 times.
Cherevatyy said that there were 38 engagements during the day. He noted that in recent days there are more than 30 combat engagements per day in the Bakhmut sector on average.
According to him, the Russians also tried to conduct offensive actions in the Avdiyivka sector and counterattack in the area of Bilohorivka, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces inflicted losses on them, the enemy was stopped.
According to the British intelligence, as of 15 January, the Ukrainian Armed Forces "almost certainly" held positions in Soledar, despite the continued assault by the Wagner PMC. Russia has repeated claimed to have "captured" the city several times, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces deny this.
