The Zhytomyr regional council has banned the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in the region, Ukrinform has reported.
"To prohibit the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which has ecclesiastical and canonical ties with the Russian Orthodox Church (registered as the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC, USREOU 21510633), is its structural unit and is in a relationship of subordination, on the territory of Zhytomyr Region," the council decision reads.
In addition, the regional council adopted an appeal to parliament to consider and adopt as soon as possible the draft law of 19 January 2023 No 8371 "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on the Activities of Religious Organisations in Ukraine" and of 23 November 2022 No 8221 "On Ensuring the Strengthening of National Security in the Field of Freedom of Conscience and Activities of Religious Organisations".
It is noted that earlier, deputies of the Zhytomyr city council adopted an appeal to parliament to ban the UOC-MP.
Today the Chernivtsi city council deprived the UOC-MP of the right to use 22 land plots in the community. Earlier, the corresponding petition gathered twice the required number of votes.
Earlier, the Ternopil city council deprived the UOC-MP of the right to use a land plot. The mayor of the city said that the Moscow church has no place in Ternopil.
Prior to this, on 11 April, the Volyn regional council banned the activities of the UOC-MP in the region.
The day before, deputies of the Rivne regional council voted at an extraordinary session to ban the UOC-MP in the region.
In Khmelnytskyy, St George's Church of the UOC-MP transferred to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
