This week, Denmark will open an office of the Royal Danish Embassy in Mykolayiv, announces Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen during a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Kyiv.
"Ukraine's recovery cannot wait for the end of the war. I am pleased to announce that this week Denmark will open an embassy office in Mykolayiv," he said. Rasmussen emphasised that Copenhagen has a special responsibility for the city and the region, and "we are taking it upon ourselves."
"The embassy office is an important symbol of the very close partnership that has developed between Denmark and Mykolayiv," the minister said. The diplomatic mission should ensure a close dialog with regional and local authorities. Ukrainian reconstruction needs should be coordinated with Danish organisations and experts in the water, energy and waste sectors.
The Foreign Minister also said that Denmark will contribute 20mn danish kroner ($2.8mn) to support Ukraine's cybersecurity.
"There is a great need for a more reliable digital infrastructure in Ukraine. Russia is using cyberattacks to destroy critical infrastructure and undermine trust in the government," Rasmussen added.
