Although the vast majority of Ukrainians support joining both the European Union and NATO (and these processes are related and parallel for Ukraine), they currently consider joining the Alliance to be a higher priority, as evidenced by the findings of a survey conducted by the Kyiv Institute of Sociology.

Thus, 54% of respondents believe that NATO membership is currently a higher priority. Membership in the EU is preferred by 24%. The rest of the respondents either answered "neither" or could not answer at all.

The number of those who prefer NATO to the EU is higher in all regions.

In addition, the majority of Ukrainians are in favour of disengagement from Russia. Thus, almost 80% of respondents believe that Ukraine and Russia should have borders, customs, visas, etc.

The question of whether Russia belongs to Europe is being debated in the worldview dimension. The respondents were asked whether they consider Russia to be part of Europe according to four criteria (or the respondent could also name their own option).

Thus, 59% consider Russia to be part of Europe by at least one of the criteria, while 41% of Ukrainians do not consider Russia to be Europe by any criterion at all. This is mainly about geography: 48% of Ukrainians consider Russia to be geographically Europe, while 47% do not. At the same time, only 10-14% of Ukrainians consider Russia to be Europe politically, culturally, or in terms of its system of values.
