On the night of 14 November, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv imposed a pre-trial restraint on MP Oleksandr Dubinskyy in a closed session. He was taken into custody for 60 days without bail, Suspilne reports.
The MP will stay in jail until 12 January 2024.
At the beginning of the meeting, the prosecutor asked to consider the choice of a preventive measure in a closed session, as the materials of the petition contain state secrets, as well as facts that could jeopardise the defence capability and national security of the country.
Dubinskyy's lawyers objected. According to them, the materials of the motion "do not contain any arguments that would indicate a state secret". Dubinskyy himself insisted on holding an open hearing. However, the judge upheld the prosecutor's position and decided to continue the hearing in a closed session.
"[Arrest] until 12 January 2024. What does this mean? New Year in the pre-trial detention centre for criticising the authorities. I wonder if there will be tangerines?" the MP commented on the court's decision.
