The Ministry of Defence is likely planning to dismiss three commanders of the Armed Forces, Ukrayinska Pravda reports, citing its own sources in the military and political leadership.
According to the sources, Defence Minister Rustem Umerov is allegedly preparing a motion to dismiss the commander of the Armed Forces Medical Forces, Tetyana Ostashchenko, the commander of the Tavriya Operational and Strategic Group of Forces, Oleksandr Tarnavskyy, and the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Nayev.
Earlier, paramedics and volunteers involved in the medical support of the Defence Forces insisted on Ostashchenko's dismissal.
The sources did not specify the reasons for the possible dismissal of Tarnavskyy, who heads one of the areas of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, and Nayev. At the same time, according to the UP, Nayev may become one of the main defendants in the case concerning the defence of Kherson Region in 2022.
Also, one of the sources noted that these dismissals had been under consideration for several months.
In September, the government dismissed all deputy ministers of defence except for the first deputy minister, Lt-Gen Oleksandr Pavlyuk. The dismissals came on the heels of the defence minister's replacement when Rustem Umerov took over from Oleksiy Reznikov. The appointment came amid high-profile scandals over the Defence Ministry's procurement and alleged abuse.
