The High Anti-Corruption Court has arrested in absentia current MP Yaroslav Dubnevych, a suspect in the case of gas embezzlement worth UAH 2.1 billion, the Specialised Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) has said.

"On 13 November 2023, an investigating judge of the HACC upheld the position of the SAPO prosecutor and imposed a preventive measure on the current MP of Ukraine, who is reasonably suspected of organising the seizure of state property (natural gas) worth more than UAH 2.1 billion and legalising the proceeds of crime," the SAPO said.

According to the prosecutor's office, the court granted the motion of the NABU detectives, agreed by the prosecutor, and imposed a custodial measure of restraint on the suspect.

"After the suspect is detained and brought to the place of pre-trial investigation, the investigating judge will decide on the application of this measure of restraint," the SAPO said.

The prosecutor's office recalled that this MP is also accused of misappropriating UAH 93 million of funds of the Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsya. On 2 November 2023, a panel of HACC judges granted the SAPO prosecutor's motion to put him on the international wanted list.

The SAPO does not specify the name of the suspected MP, but it is Yaroslav Dubnevych.

On 10 October, the NABU and SAPO served Dubnevych with a notice of suspicion of organising the seizure of state property (natural gas) worth over UAH 2.1 billion and legalisation of the proceeds of crime.
