Defence forces destroyed the Russian Ropucha-class landing ship Novocherkassk. This information was confirmed by Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk. He thanked the pilots and all those involved for their fine work.
"And the fleet in Russia is getting smaller and smaller! This time, following the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the cruiser Moskva, the large landing ship Novocherkassk is on its way," he wrote.
Oleshchuk advised Russians to flee Crimea before it is too late.
Locals wrote on social media that the ship exploded in the port of Feodosia around 3 am. The occupiers traditionally claimed that it was an "air defence operation". Traffic on the Crimean bridge was blocked.
Ropucha-class landing ship Novocherkassk
The Novocherkassk is a large amphibious assault ship of the Ropucha 775 class project, which is in service with the Russian Black Sea Fleet. It is designed for landing amphibious assault on an unequipped coastline and for the transfer of troops and cargo by sea. It is capable of transporting various types of armoured vehicles, including tanks.
Built in Poland. Launched in 1987. The Novocherkassk was damaged by a strike by the Defence Forces in the port of Berdyansk in March 2022. At that time, the Orsk and Caesar Kunikov were also damaged along with it.
