One F-16 fighter jet has crashed in Ukraine, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a US official, Yevropeyska Pravda reports.

The F-16 was destroyed on 26 August as a result of an accident. It was probably caused by pilot error.

On the evening of 29 August, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released information that F-16 was involved in repelling a massive Russian attack on 26 August.

‘During the air battle, the F-16s demonstrated their high efficiency, with four enemy cruise missiles being shot down by the onboard weapons. During the approach to the next target, one of the aircraft lost contact with the other. As it turned out later, the aircraft crashed, and the pilot was killed,’ the command said.

The General Staff added that a special commission of the Ministry of Defence has been appointed to investigate the causes of the crash and is working in the area where the plane went down.

F-16 pilot Oleksandr Mes was killed in the air battle, CNN reported.
