On the night of 25 November, Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out strikes on significant Russian targets in multiple regions, including Bryansk, Kaluga, and Kursk.
The operation involved the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and other units of the Defence Forces, the General Staff reported. “A number of key facilities were attacked, including an oil depot in the Kaluga Region, which was successfully destroyed,” the statement said.
The results of strikes on other targets are still being clarified.
In the Kursk Region, reports indicate a major ATACMS missile strike. Volunteer Serhiy Sternenko wrote on Telegram that a military airfield was damaged, and two Russian soldiers were wounded. The ASTRA Telegram channel corroborated the damage.
Context: Strikes on Russian Territory
Last week, the United States approved Ukraine’s use of long-range ATACMS missiles against Russian military targets. On 19 November, Ukraine conducted its first ATACMS strike on Russian territory, targeting a site in the Bryansk region, according to RBK-Ukraine and Yuriy Butusov.
Previously, Ukraine relied on domestically produced weapons, primarily drones, for such operations, but these proved insufficient. The decision by U.S. President Joe Biden to authorise the use of American-made missiles was reportedly influenced by North Korea’s deployment of troops to assist Russia, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
