US President-elect Donald Trump has stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is prepared to pursue peace.
Speaking to The Post, Trump revealed details of his discussions with world leaders, including Zelenskyy, during his first foreign trip to France after winning his second term. The trip included a trilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Zelenskyy.
“He wants to make peace. This is new,” Trump said, adding, “He wants a ceasefire. He thinks it’s time, and Putin should think it’s time, too. When you lose 700,000 people, it’s time. It won’t end until there is peace.”
Trump shared that he and Zelenskyy discussed the possibility of ending the conflict that has gripped Ukraine since 2022. “I am developing a concept of how to end this senseless war,” Trump stated.
Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria, Trump urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to “immediately cease fire” in Ukraine and engage in talks to end the war.
After their meeting, Zelenskyy described Trump as “determined” and said they agreed to continue working towards peace, adding, “Peace through strength is possible.”
