On 7 May, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that since the start of this day, the Russian army has been striking Ukraine in every form: attack drones, missile strikes, shelling and assaults along the front line, and the use of aerial bombs. In the time from the start of the day through the morning alone, there were already about 100 attack drones, dozens of assault actions on key front-line directions, as well as dozens of airstrikes.
Significant damage to civilian facilities has been recorded in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, and Kherson Regions. There were also strikes on locomotives and Ukrzaliznytsya infrastructure in several regions. Ukraine’s energy sector remains an unchanged Russian target.
According to the president, all of this indicates that Russia is not seriously considering the possibility of a ceasefire, and the only thing that continues to concern the Russian leadership is short-term silence on Red Square. The head of state noted that Russia continues to kill people and, in a completely inadequate way, worries only about a few hours of silence in one part of Moscow.
“Ukraine will act fairly — in the coming days. We proposed silence starting at midnight on 6 May. Yesterday and today, this regime has been violated by Russia. In a mirror manner and in response to Russian strikes — our long-range sanctions; in response to Russia’s readiness to move to diplomacy, we will pursue the path of diplomacy. Concrete steps to end the war are needed, and peace will be achieved anyway: we are working for it. The only question is how much time will be lost because of Russia’s madness,” the president wrote.
