On the border with Russia in Chernihiv Region, 2,400 hectares of forest are burning. The fire was caused by shelling, according to Forests of Ukraine.

The blaze has engulfed the Yeline and Tykhnovets forestry districts. This is a five-kilometre border zone that foresters cannot access because of the danger.

“The outbreak was recorded by the company’s surveillance cameras. All forest protection forces have been deployed to prevent the fire from spreading to areas we can access. First of all, we are creating additional mineralised firebreaks. The company’s tractors are operating under EW cover, because the enemy strikes any equipment,” the state enterprise said.

All of the company’s new firefighting equipment has been mobilised. But for now it cannot be fully deployed, because Russian UAVs are constantly in the air.
