Dnipro was attacked by Russian forces overnight using missiles and attack drones. A two-storey building in the city has been destroyed. As of 12:57, 12 people are known to have been killed, including two children and a rescue worker who died in a secondary explosion, according to the head of the regional military administration.
A total of 37 people were injured, including four children. Two boys aged six and 16, as well as a 13-year-old girl, were hospitalised in a moderately serious condition, while a 14-year-old girl is receiving outpatient treatment. Twenty-two people remain in hospital, four of them in a serious condition.
According to the State Emergency Service, the death toll had risen to nine by 10:35, including a rescuer who was killed in a secondary strike while responding to the attack. Rescuers also recovered the body of a child born in 2023 from the rubble of a four-storey residential building that was devastated by the strike.
Among those killed were a 73-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man who later died in hospital from severe injuries sustained in the attack. Earlier reports indicated that a 22-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman were in critical condition.
The attack destroyed a two-storey building and partially destroyed two-storey and four-storey residential blocks, as well as a business premises. Garages and vehicles were also damaged or destroyed. The city’s fire and rescue station sustained damage when the blast wave shattered its windows.
Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov said at least 49 buildings had been damaged, seven of them almost completely destroyed. Several educational institutions and trams were also affected. A number of residents remain unaccounted for.
Search and rescue operations are continuing amid concerns that people may still be trapped beneath the rubble of the destroyed residential building. Dog handlers and psychologists from the State Emergency Service are working at the scene.
The city of Kamyanske in the Dnipropetrovsk Region also came under attack. Fires broke out in two buildings, and a 72-year-old woman was hospitalised with burns. A 49-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man also required medical treatment.
