Ukrainian troops have raised the national flag on the Kinburn Spit.
This was reported by the regional command of the South Territorial Defence Forces.
“The blue-and-yellow flag is flying over the Kinburn Spit! Following sustained fire attacks, the Southern Defence Forces forced the occupiers to retreat from their positions. The evacuation of surviving personnel is underway, and the occupiers are abandoning their defensive lines. We will not stop!” the statement reads.
- The Kinburn Spit is the only part of the Mykolayiv Region that remains under Russian occupation. Russian forces seized it in March 2022 during their advance from the Kherson Region. The spit is strategically important as it controls access to the ports of Kherson and Mykolayiv.
- In August 2024, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine carried out a landing operation on the spit and inflicted losses on Russian forces.
