More than 70 systems based on artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies are currently used by Ukraine’s Defence Forces to strike Russian targets, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine said.

“More than 200 companies in Ukraine are now involved in the production of AI-powered drones. Meanwhile, 46 AI developments are available to the military on the state defence technology marketplace Brave1 Market, including target-recognition, optical stabilisation and automatic guidance modules,” the ministry said.

The Defence Ministry also said it aims to ensure that these technologies are used in 100% of unmanned systems deployed on the frontline.

Computer vision and AI systems enable drones to navigate without satellite signals, identify objects from a distance and, on an operator’s command, strike detected targets, according to the ministry.

“Thus, AI is involved in the entire kill chain – the sequence of steps from target detection to its destruction and assessment of the effectiveness of the strike – from identification to engagement and evaluation,” the Defence Ministry said, stressing that the final decision remains with a human.
