Austria wants to host the Ukraine Recovery Conference in 2028.
The initiative was announced by the President of Austria’s Federal Council, Kristina Schwarz-Fuchs, at a summit of states from the Carpathian region in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, European Pravda reports.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that the proposal came as news to him.
Schwarz-Fuchs assured unwavering support for Ukraine’s reconstruction from Vienna and international partners. Despite Russia’s lack of willingness to end the war and the further escalation of the situation with numerous casualties, the Austrian side is urging allies to be prepared for future dialogue and to look for even the smallest opportunities for peace talks.
In addition, Austria promises to defend Ukraine’s interests and the principles of international law during its work on the UN Security Council, which it will chair in 2027–2028.
