Acting Prosecutor General Anton Kovalskyi has said that in the coming days the internal and staffing procedures concerning prosecution service employees will be completed in connection with the circumstances being investigated as part of Operation “Carthage”.
He said this in his post on Facebook.
“We will not accuse anyone until guilt is established in the manner prescribed by law. But the position of prosecutor cannot be a pretext for protecting someone or creating special conditions for them,” Kovalskyy said.
According to him, he will hold working meetings with the heads of key areas of the Office of the Prosecutor General and regional prosecutor’s offices. They plan to discuss problem areas, high-profile cases, staffing issues and decisions that cannot be postponed.
Kovalskyi also said he was ready to work with NABU and SAPO “professionally and within the law”. He stressed that each body must do its job within its defined powers.
- The day before, on 17 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy assigned the duties of Prosecutor General to Kovalskyy, who had previously headed the Khmelnytskyy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
- Kovalskyy became acting Prosecutor General after the resignation of Ruslan Kravchenko. Zelenskyy approved his dismissal by decree on 15 September.
- The decision was preceded by a scandal surrounding the NABU and SAPO investigation “Carthage”. After it, Kravchenko first resigned and later issued a notice of suspicion to NABU Director Semen Kryvonos.
- On the night of 14 September, Ruslan Kravchenko left the country under the pretext of a business trip.
