The A1 Artificial Intelligence Centre at Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence is developing an AI system called SPECTR to analyse combat data and plan operations. The defence ministry’s press service reports this.
Among the system’s main tasks are:
- information analysis;
- identifying patterns;
- producing recommendations for operational planning and organising processes within the military;
- automating routine work in headquarters.
The Ministry of Defence notes that this will allow service personnel to interact more quickly with information from the battlefield, while the data will remain within a secure perimeter.
SPECTR will operate within existing systems used by the Defence Forces, as well as on local devices intended for working with sensitive data.
According to the head of the A1 centre, Danylo Tsvok, Ukraine has a unique body of data on modern warfare. SPECTR will help turn it into a real advantage on the battlefield.
“In effect, we are building an operating system for waging war, which will help service personnel choose effective courses of action and will forecast the enemy’s possible moves,” he says.
The Ministry of Defence established the A1 Artificial Intelligence Centre in March 2026 with support from the UK government. The team was launched with a clear mission: to turn AI into an advantage for Ukraine on the battlefield and to build an AI-driven army — that is, a military force enhanced by artificial intelligence.
Building an AI-driven army includes three main areas:
- faster and more effective data-driven decision-making;
- using AI in strike capabilities;
- reducing bureaucracy in the military.
The centre is already working on three flagship projects — in the area of combat data analysis and improving defence innovation. Some solutions are being tested by units.
It recently became known that the FERRATA special unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine is testing a system for managing complex combat operations involving artificial intelligence, ground robotic systems and maritime drones.
