US President Donald Trump has criticised Norway for not awarding him the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. He called the decision outrageous and described members of the prize committee as “enemies of civilisation”.
Trump made the remarks at a campaign rally in Syracuse, New York, Associated Press and ClashReport report.
The American president voiced his anger a few hours after the announcement of the prize winner — former International Criminal Court judge Navi Pillay. She led the preparation of a UN report that concluded Israel had committed genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Trump called Pillay “a liberal person who works at the UN and whom nobody has ever heard of”.
“The Nobel Peace Prize has been permanently discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who oppose democracy and are true enemies of civilisation. And we will not forget this, Norway,” the US president said.
He also claimed he had no equal when it came to making peace, and repeated that he had settled eight wars. According to Trump, he also aims to resolve or win two more conflicts involving Iran and in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

In addition, the American president said he had prevented possible wars between South Korea and North Korea, Japan and North Korea, as well as China and Taiwan. He provided no evidence to support these claims.
“The United States, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but did not. It is an indelible stain on the country of Norway,” Trump said.

The US president has repeatedly said he deserves the award. In September 2025, he said he was not seeking the Nobel Peace Prize, but wanted fair treatment, particularly in light of his statements about ending a number of wars.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously noted that he would nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he stopped Russia’s war against Ukraine.
But after Zelenskyy refused to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries, Trump decided to strike a deal with Putin on diesel fuel supplies and the lifting of sanctions against Russian energy exports.
