The Maryinka checkpoint on the line of contact in Donetsk Region has been closed due to continuous shooting by pro-Russian militants, the head of the press centre of the antiterrorist operation (ATO) HQ, Volodymyr Kosenko, has confirmed to LIGA.net.

In his words, the militants are shooting not only at the advanced positions of the military but also at Maryinka's residential neighborhoods.

Kosenko said the checkpoint was closed to ensure the safety of civilians who want to cross the line of contact, as well as to protect the lives of servicemen.

"The checkpoint is closed until the situation stabilizes," he said.

On 10 February, three people were killed when a passenger van hit a mine near the Maryinka checkpoint.
