Famous Ukrainian scientist, astronomer and comet researcher Klym Churyumov, 80, died on 15 October, NewsOne TV has quoted a deputy director of the Kyiv planetarium, Olena Dirdovska, as saying.
She said he died suddenly when he was on the road to Kharkiv.
Churyumov became famous after he and Svitlana Herasymenko discovered a Jupiter-family comet in 1969, later named after them.
He was the director of the Kyiv planetarium and the president of the Ukrainian Society of Amateur Astronomers.
