The situation in the area of the antiterrorist operation remains tense although stable. Over the past day, separatist militants 52 times fired at the ATO forces along the contact line, having wounded five Ukrainian servicemen, the ATO press center said in a 18 May release.

In the coastal sector, 21 enemy attacks were recorded. The hottest spots here in the areas of Shyrokyne, Pavlopil, Krasnohorivka and Maryinka. Also, the enemy shelled the ATO positions in the areas of Vodyane Hnutove, Lebedynske, Bohdanivka, Novotroyitske and Chermalyk. In the area of Pavlopil, the Russia-backed terrorists used 120-mm caliber forbidden under the Minsk accords.

In the Donetsk sector, Avdiyivka where militants used 120-mm mortars and tank weapons remained the hottest spot. Here and the area of Kodem, the terrorists used 122-mm artillery.

In the Luhansk sector, 13 cases of enemy shelling attacks were recorded, including with the use of 120- and 82-mm mortars against the ATO positions near the village of Krymske. Militants used 82-mm mortars in the Novooleksandrivka area, and automatic machine-gun grenade launchers and heavy machine guns – at Novozvanivka. Also, grenade launchers of various systems were fired at Troyitske and Lobachovo.

On Wednesday, militants shelled Avdiyivka and Krasnohorivka in Donetsk Region. No civilian casualties have been reported, but several houses were destroyed and a school building was damaged.
