Ukraine's national railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia, in partnership with American companies Amsted Rail and The Greenbrier Companies will create a leasing company that will provide 10,000 freight cars to Ukrainian carriers.
"One of the key issues for the market is the shortage of wagons. Along with our partners Amsted Rail and The Greenbrier Companies, which are actively cooperating with the EBRD, Ukreximbank and [the US financial institution] OPIC, we know what to do," the company's CEO Wojciech Balczun wrote on Facebook on Wednesday, 12 July.
"We plan to jointly create a leasing company in Ukraine that will provide Ukrainian carriers with 10,000 wagons. The park is planned to be built jointly with other national producers for this project. In the framework of this project, we have visited the Amstel Rail plant in Columbus, Ohio that manufactures over 250,000 top-quality wheels for rolling stock."
Ukrzaliznytsia is set to abandon grandfather' methods of patching holes in the strategic problems of the industry. It is going to build new processes with companies that have proven history of reliability, state-of-the-art technologies, world recognition and complete absence of corruption, Balczun summed up.
Amsted Rail is the renown manufacturer of railway equipment – from wheels, axles and bearings to brake systems, trucks, rollers, etc.
Greenbrier builds freight cars in North America and Europe.
