US secretary of defence to visit Ukraine on 24 Aug
He will meet the Ukrainian president, defence minister.
James Mattis will pay his first visit to Kyiv as defence secretary in 24 August. There, the secretary will meet with Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak and President Petro Poroshenko, according to the website of the Department of Defence
"During these engagements, the secretary will reassure our Ukrainian partners that the USA remains firmly committed to the goal of restoring Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as strengthening the strategic defence partnership between our two countries," the statement reads.
As reported earlier, after his visit to the USA, President Poroshenko said that in the coming two or three months representatives of Donald Trump's administration will visit Ukraine to sign defence agreements.
