The volume of gas accumulated by Ukraine in underground storage facilities reached 15bn cu.m. of gas as of 4 September 2017. For comparison, last year's maximum before the heating season was at 14.732bn cu.m.
The country's gas transit monopoly, Ukrtranshaz, said it pumped 1,667bn cu.m. into storage facilities in August. In the first days of September, the pace remained nearly the same, that is 51.5 mn cu.m. a day.
In 2016, Ukraine started to use the stored gas for heating on 16 October, when gas reserves were at 14.732bn cu.m.
In 2015, Ukraine started the heating season on 30 October with 17bn cu.m. of gas in storage facilities.
In previous years, except for 2014, the volumes of gas reserved for the heating season were higher.
