Since the beginning of 2014, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has paid over 1.5 bn dollars in execution of the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights in cases against Ukraine, the ministry told Yevropeyska Pravda on 31 October. In particular, according to the Ministry of Justice, in 2014 Ukraine paid 169,817 mn hryvnia, in 2015 – 639,981 mn hryvnia, in 2016 - 612,294 mn hryvnia in financial compensations awarded by the ECHR.
As of October 20 this year, 104 mn hryvnia was paid in compensations awarded by the ECHR in the cases against Ukraine.
The ministry did not provide a list of individuals who received the damages, saying that it does not maintain such a register.
Yesterday, President Petro Poroshenko signed a bill that ratified Protocols Nos. 15 and 16 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which refers to the reduction of the time limits for lodging lawsuits with the European Court of Human Rights.
