The Cabinet of Ministers decided to increase scholarships to students of universities by 18% since November, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, 8 November
"Since 1 November, all the scholarships in the country, both social and academic, will be raised by 18%," Groysman said.
He also thanked the ministries of economy, finance and education for having found a consensus on this complex issue.
The Ministry of Finance has suggests to cut since 2018 the number of recipients of academic scholarship (awarded to students without school grades below four out of five) down to 25%, and to 15% by 2020. This initiative was rejected.
To date, 40 to 45% Ukrainian college students receive academic scholarships.
