On 7 February, the separatist Donetsk people’s republic handed over to the Ukrainian authorities 20 people who were serving sentences in the areas of Donetsk Region occupied by Russia.
Ukrainian ombudsperson Valeriya Lutkovska, who oversees this process, said that the transfer was carried with the participation Ukrainian MP Iryna Suslova, a member of the parliamentary human rights committee, and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
This is the 10th transfer of prisoners. In general, since 2015, Ukraine has secured the transfer of 186 prisoners from occupied Donbas and 12 from Crimea.
In September, 19 convicts were transferred from the occupied areas.
