The Ukrainian parliament has said that the Russian presidential election in temporarily occupied Crimea and the city of Sevastopol was unlawful and its results carry no legal consequences.

Draft resolution No 8168-1 to this effect was supported by 255 MPs.

"The results of this unlawful vote are null and have no legal consequences. They also cannot in any way testify or in any way be used as evidence of any change in the status of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine – the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as defined by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine," reads the statement.

The Ukrainian parliament called on the international community to impose additional sanctions on Russia and individual sanctions (restrictions) on persons involved in the organization and conduct of illegal vote during the presidential election in the temporarily occupied the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as those involved in the systematic violations of fundamental human rights and freedoms in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.
