A lab in Donetsk Region has identified what caused the intestinal infection in the Yastrebok summer camp. Out of 94 patients, 18 were confirmed to have Sonne dysentery, the Health Ministry's press service has said.
Dysentery is an inflammatory disease of the intestine, especially of the colon, which always results in severe diarrhea and abdominal pains. Dysentery results from viral, bacterial or parasitic infections.
As of 10 in the morning, 94 people have been hospitalized with signs of acute intestinal infection. An investigation showed that the first case of the disease was found with a canteen staff member on 15 July, followed by children from all camp teams on 16 and 17 July.
They are under constant monitoring and receive proper treatment.
