Border guards detained Dnipro deputy mayor Mykhaylo Lysenko in Kharkiv airport on 25 October, the Eastern regional directorate of the State Border Service has said.
He arrived from Istanbul.
While checking his documents, the border guards found out that he was suspected of embezzlement and forgery.
According to the Informator website, prosecutors suspect him of embezzlement of funds during the repair of New Bridge in Dnipro. Lysenko has spent a long time abroad.
