US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has confirmed that he is planning to visit a number of countries, including Ukraine.
"Excited to travel to Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Cyprus in the new year to meet with counterparts and affirm U.S. priorities across #Europe and South Central Asia," he tweeted.
According to journalist Christopher Miller, Pompeo will come to Kyiv on 3 January.
"Pompeo to visit Kyiv on Jan. 3, a day after Ambassador Bill Taylor, the top diplo at the US Embassy, departs. The secretary will meet President Zelensky and the country’s foreign and defense ministers “to reaffirm US support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," he tweeted.
In December, Politico reported that the State Department was preparing Pompeo's visit to Ukraine to mend bilateral ties.
On 19 December, Ukrainian presidential aide Andriy Yermak also said that the visit was in the pipeline.
