Russia is deliberately blackmailing the world with a nuclear disaster. Never before has a state tried to massacre under the nuclear power plant while fighting. Any shot from a tank, any hit by a missile or air bomb on the station can lead to a terrible catastrophe.
This was stated by Advisor to the chief of president’s office of Ukraine Mykhailo Podoliak.
"Perhaps our partners have some misunderstanding of what Russia is doing. And Russia is fighting a deliberate violation of all conventions, laws and rules of war, trying to cause maximum damage to Ukrainian critical infrastructure, civilian infrastructure, ordinary people. To cause maximum panic," he said.
Advisor to the chief of president’s office is convinced that the Russian command could not help but know what threatens Ukraine and the whole of Europe with a large-scale tank attack against the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
"Consequences, risks, extent of destruction - everything was thought out by the Russians in advance. That is, literally every Russian soldier involved in this attack, well understood all possible consequences. And this must be considered when trying to understand the motives of Russians in Ukraine," said Podolyak.
"Zaporizhzhya NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. If something irreparable happens there, it will be at least six times worse than Chernobyl," he added.
The Deputy of the chief of president’s office said that President Zelenskyy had been in touch with the leaders of the partner countries all night.
"Everyone, absolutely everyone, supported Ukraine and was shocked by Russia's actions. We call on the world to immediately tighten sanctions against Russia. If the state blackmails the world with a nuclear disaster, it must bear maximum responsibility," said a spokesman for the Ukrainian president's office.
Earlier, the former chief engineer of the Chernobyl NPP, former Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Mykola Steinberg addressed the world nuclear energy community. He stressed that the time for political correctness has passed, and called for "crushing the snake before it's too late."
