Ukrainian Association of Scrap Metals "UAVtormet" prepares to dismantle Russian tanks and armoured personnel vehicles for recyc

Ukrainian Association of Scrap Metals "UAVtormet" is studying international best practices to recycle military equipment into scrap metals. "We are researching international experience and technologies of recycling military equipment. We will be sharing these technologies with the members and partners of our association," reports Interfax-Ukraine citing the association.

The company's official Facebook page displays information about a German company that recycles military equipment. There is a link to the Ukrainian ICTV channel interview with the title "Russian tanks for scrap metal! Can one make money on enemy equipment? Can one bring an enemy tank to a scrap yard?" In the interview, the head of a metal recycling company Interpipe Vtormet, Valentyn Makarenko, said Ukraine lacked scrap metal until it received new reserves recently. "We will use it and recycle it! We need this product!" said Makarenko.

He clarified that functioning equipment, such as tanks, armoured personnel vehicles or others, are war trophies. If the equipment is no longer functional, it's scrap metal. A person can bring a tank or other used equipment to a scrap yard and receive compensation. Before the war, a tonne or scrap cost nine thousand UAH.

Ukrainian Association of Scrap Metals (UAVtormet), Ukrainian Association of Metal Scrap Exports (UAEM) and Ukrainian Association of Scrap Metals and Ressources (UAVtormetresurs) are active in Ukraine.
