Ukrainian Minister of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk strongly criticized Hungarian governmen

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk strongly criticized the Hungarian government for not supporting sanctions against Russia. She wrote that in a post on her Facebook page.

“Even some Russia satellite countries from the former USSR do not behave in the way Hungarian government does. Ukrainian Hungarians, some of who I know personally, are unpleasantly impressed by such behaviour,” stated Vereshchuk.

Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that “Hungarians do not support the sanctions. Not only they do not give weapons to Ukraine, but they also do not allow the weapon supplies from other countries to Ukraine to be transported through their territory. They say no practically to anything. Budapest is one step from making their rhetorics completely pro-Russian. What else? Do they want cheap Russian gas? Or do they want our Zakarpattia? Do Hungarian people really want to betray us at our darkest hour? And for what? For some pathetic perks from Russia?”

According to Vereshchuk, in this civilizational confrontation, “Hungary is unlikely to flirt with Russia and secretly capitalize on Ukrainian problems. They simply need to take the side of the civilized world. Not to repeat the mistakes of WW2 when Hungary made the wrong choice. Yes, the right choice is difficult in the short run, but it is called right because it make things easy in the long run”.

Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has said that even though Hungary condemns Russian invasion into Ukraine but it will not support any sanctions that ban the import of Russian energy carriers. According to him, Hungarian economy cannot function without Russian oil and gas.
